The Upanishad suggests :

द्वितीयाद्वै भयम्।। 

Fear is born of the idea of the "other"

This existence is but One Undivided Whole.

The sense of I when gets confined in a body,  in limited organism, gets translated into I'm this (body). And then the reflection of the same gets into "this world isn't me."

Lo and behold! 

The "other", that was hitherto non-existant, comes alive and becomes the cause of the fear! 

I think, when Jean Paul Sartre observed :

"The other is hell",

He might have had this distant echo of the same Upanishad-dictum.
